A Challenging Yet Successful Adventure for DaklaPack Rallysport
Dakar 2025 has come to an end. Although DaklaPack Rallysport didn’t achieve the desired result, the journey was still a resounding success in many ways.
Before the rally even began, the team faced significant challenges. A stomach flu virus swept through the camp, leaving several mechanics unable to work during the critical days leading up to the event. Co-pilots Seba Cesana and Tessa Klaassen were also struck by illness just before the start, and one mechanic required an IV due to severe dehydration.
The misfortunes continued into the rally. David Zille and Seba Cesana suffered an early setback when their Taurus T3’s engine failed due to circumstances beyond their control. Forced to withdraw from the main competition, they rejoined in the Dakar Experience category. Their perseverance paid off spectacularly with an impressive stage victory in their category during Stage 9—a testament to the team’s determination and skill.
Dave Klaassen and Tessa Klaassen also encountered trouble during the first week. A front suspension mounting point unexpectedly broke, likely due to metal fatigue, and the other mounting points on the suspension arm sheared off. Despite assistance from two T5 service trucks, they couldn’t continue as a generator failure rendered the welding equipment unusable. Their race in the main competition came to an end.
However, like their teammates, Dave and Tessa Klaassen pressed on in the Dakar Experience. Their resilience and sportsmanship were recognized when they received the prestigious Spirit Award for their heroic three-hour effort to assist an exhausted and dehydrated motorcyclist during Stage 6’s challenging night section.
The team’s professionalism shone through in every aspect of their work. Thanks to their tireless dedication, both vehicles started each day in top condition. Countless nights were spent working non-stop to prepare the cars for the next stage.
Reflecting on Dakar 2025, DaklaPack Rallysport remains proud of their achievements, even if the final results didn’t align with their initial goals. The team proved their strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit under challenging circumstances.
Now, all eyes are on the future. The team is preparing for their next rally in Portugal, followed by the Morocco Desert Challenge (MDC) in April, and the iconic Safari Rally in South Africa.
The Dakar dream continues, stronger than ever.
